Jorge L. Rivera, J.D.

Executive Director 

Jorge L Rivera was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico. He possesses a B.A. in Management and Marketing and J.D. (law) degrees from the Inter-American University in Puerto Rico. He worked as an attorney for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Justice Department from 1981-1986. He also had his own private practice from 1986-1989. In 1989 he decided to move to Hartford. Since his arrival Mr. Rivera has dedicated himself to advocate, help and support poor families, especially youth, to deal with economic and systems constrains.

He worked for the Hartford Public Schools from 1989 to 1992. While working with the school system he implemented a drug prevention program at the elementary level called Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Training. At the same time Mr. Rivera was a volunteer at several different organizations such as HART’s Drug Prevention Collaborative Committee, Hagar CREA International of Connecticut, of which he one of the founders, and past president, Prisoner Outreach Program (POP), a program that he developed and coordinated for the State Department of Correction (CCI-Medium Security Prison-Enfield), and the Prisoners Sponsorship Program

In 1992 Mr. Rivera received a Master Degree in Bi-Lingual.Bi-Culutral education from the University of Connecticut. In 1998 Mr. Rivera received a Master Degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut. His current volunteer work includes; Secretary of Hogar CREA Internal, Board of Directors, Vice President of Hogar CREA International of USA, member of the Institute for the Hispanic Family Board of Director, and most recently appointed Chair of the North Frog Hollow Neighborhood Revitalization Zone (NRZ).

Jorge has received the following Community Service Awards, Broad & Park Development Corporation, Hartford Areas Rally Together, Antonia Pantoja Award, University of Connecticut, and Committed Adult to the Children of Hartford (CATCH) City of Hartford.
